Govt Backs Communication Units for Malawi 2063 Vision
The Principal Secretary (Administration) in the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), Rashid Mtelera, has affirmed government’s commitment to embedding strong communication practices across all sectors.
Mtelera says the government is actively supporting the establishment of dedicated communication and public relations units within ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) as a crucial strategy for realizing the Malawi 2063 development agenda.

Mtelera: Effective communication strengthens governance, promotes accountability, and ensures transparency in public service.
Speaking as the Guest of Honour at the PRSM 2025 Annual General Conference in Mzuzu on Friday, Mtelera emphasized that as Malawi strives for the aspirations of its long-term vision, communication must be central to every stage: planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Mtelera underscored the direct link between clear communication and successful national development. He asserted that even the most meticulously designed policies are bound to fail if the public doesn’t understand them.
“No development agenda can succeed if citizens feel excluded or misinformed. When communication is effective, people move forward together. When it fails, progress comes to a halt. Effective communication strengthens governance, promotes accountability, and ensures transparency in public service,” he stated.
