PRSM & MACRA court Media Influencers
The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) held the first ever workshop for social media influencers at promoting responsible use of digital media.
Speaking at the workshop in Lilongwe MACRA Board Chairperson Dr. Stanley Khaila called on the media influencers to be responsible when posting online.
“MACRA is mandated through the Electronic Transactions and Cybersecurity Act to ensure that all users of ICT services are protected and this includes conducting such workshops to educate users on their responsibilities when using cyberspace,” said Khaila.
Among the facilitators of the workshop was Public Relations Society of Malawi (PRSM) President Ben Linje whose presentation focused on Digital Trends and Social Media and National Security.
Another PRSM member and treasurer, also presented on Fake News & Media Management.
“It was a show of trust on PRSM by Macra. As subject matter experts, we are always eager to partner various organisations to build capacity on PR, organizational branding, influencing operations and strategic communications among others” said Linje.
PRSM together with MACRA later organised a networking cocktail for the influencers in order to give a chance to influencers to interact with PR practitioners from various organisations.
